About

I made this database site because I began to see confusion and misinformation regarding the different Wii revisions and the DVD drive controller chips used in new machines. As of August 2008 there are 6 different controller chips, and that's in a span of 1.5 year. There is already a Wii Tracker site helping you to find what kind of chip you have and whether the pins were cut, but it didn't include support for the latest chip revisions. Nintendo regularly revs the chip to fix faults and make it more cost efficient. It's not known if Nintendo actively combats the homebrew/drivechips but it certainly seems that way from the perspective of a modder.

The content and catalog on this site is solely provided by its users and contributors. There are simple administer functions that will keep incorrect/bad entries off the database. Everyone is encouraged to submit their details to increase the value of the database.

To build the site I only had to create a fork of another similar site, Xbox 360 Drives, and make the approperiate adjustments and create a new design. Most of the code has been through many revisions and I feel that it's a solid codebase to work on. It took me the good part of a Sunday to set up the basics and another 4 days to tweak the submission form, create a how to guide, make the listings as easy to read as possible, and create a live serial number identification process.

If you want any features or even find bugs, don't hesitate to e-mail me .
